After

Story Summary

Trust reflects how much of life is unknown, yet we often cling tightly to control. This creation was painted in that tension between wanting certainty and choosing faith. With a subliminal word beneath the layers and intuitive marks above, the work captures the process of letting go of outcomes and leaning into guidance. It invites you to trust yourself, trust the journey, and remember that not having every answer can still be a safe, sacred place.

Story

So much of life is unknown and yet we rely so heavily on having everything planned out. In late 2020 I decided I was going to embrace trust in 2021 and really apply the quote from Mark Twain “So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor.” Before I ‘sailed away from safe harbor’ I painted it and this calm tranquil piece. I wasn’t quite sure what would transpire as I painted. I started with an emerald green color and that turned into a blueish green and I kept painting and the softer colors came through. As with all of my subliminal story art pieces, the word/words underneath inform the work. Trust is similar to surrender in that I have found it to be a very active, intentional step that relies less on your actions and more what life is choosing to create for you as you step into an unknown. Much of the trust that I have struggled with over the years is trusting myself. Maybe some of these phrases sound familiar to you…”Can I really make that move?” “What will happen if I make that choice and it’s the wrong choice?” “I don’t want to screw things up.” I spent much of my life living in a fear of not making the right choice. Interestingly enough, I believe life responds with exactly what you need in the moment so it is always the right choice, no matter what you choose. It is all working for the greater good in some way. The greater good to make you somehow more connected to knowing who you are. After realizing that “trust” is really trusting myself, I realized the decisions I was making while painting this, choosing to sell my home of 13 years and try a new way of life of travel. That way, I could explore more of myself and trust myself and life more. As you view this piece, I invite you to recognize where in your life you need to trust yourself more. Take the time to pray about it and your inner self will know what to do, and surrender into what you need to do. Ultimately, it’s your choice at the end of the day. This piece came in a way as a reminder for you to connect to yourself.
