Story Summary
I have often said, “Porsches are art on wheels.” On July 25th, 2025, Porsche Bend hosted “There is No Substitute: Electric Dreams,” where 90+ enthusiasts contributed their “One of One” Porsche stories onto a 5×6' canvas. Those contributions, along with Porsche’s paint palette, served as inspiration for a custom Subliminal Story Art creation for the raffle winner. After a Story Inspiration Meeting and many textured layers over several weeks, the final work pays homage to both Porsche’s legacy and the heartfelt contributions beneath its surface.
Story
This canvas started out very differently than most other works with many logistics that helps this work truly live up to it’s “One Of One” title. On July 11, 2025 I visited a local framer that offers customized canvases to collect a freshly cut, raw canvas before it was stretched onto its final frame. I instantly drove to Porsche Bend so I could begin the canvas with the two vehicles that would be featured during the Electric Dreams event. After arriving at the afternoon's “temporary art studio”, a Taycan and Macan were delivered to the Porsche hanger. After I carefully unrolled the exceptionally large unstretched canvas I selected my first “paintbrush” also known as a Taycan. I intentionally drove over what would become a 5’ x 6’ framed canvas leaving Taycan tire tracks on the canvas. After readjusting the canvas and driving over it, I switched “paintbrushes” and added different arcs to the canvas using the Macan.
After the tire tracks were laid down, came the logos the Taycan, Macan and of course the true inspiration behind the evening…the Porsche brand we would all be celebrating that evening. I took the logos and hand carved the negative space of the stencils and judiciously spaced and traced the logos on the canvas. I was appreciating the engineering, workmanship, and design of Porsches as I was coloring each of the logos. I was humbled and honored to be working on a canvas that was so inspired and steeped in tradition.
Upon arrival on July 25th, after being greeted by the Porsche welcome tent, a thought instantly flashed that went something like: “I am involved with a brand that I have been following and appreciating since before I could drive.” Up the stairs and inside was the now “tire tracked,” laid, 5’ x 6’ framed and stenciled canvas that would be contributed by the enthusiasts in attendance. After I had a Story Inspiration call with the winner from the evening, I would then take that and paint over the contributions that would inspire the final work. As I walked up the stairs, a very vibrant Taycan Turbo GT in Sky Purple metallic was displayed and lit on the left and an elegant Volcano Grey Macan on the right in the venue. As the caterers were getting ready to share their cooking artistry, our team gathered to capture video and fine tune our display including my own personal artifacts collected over the years, including a Porsche 356 1/18 scale model. Display cards were placed on tables to educate and inform the guests on the prompt for the canvas.
As the evening kicked off, and Megan from Porsche Bend welcomed everyone and shared what would be happening throughout the night, she gave me the mic to share the Subliminal Story Art process and prompt for the evening. Throughout the evening, I enjoyed hearing from Porsche enthusiasts and watching their faces light up as they shared various stories and appreciation for the brand. A sound bite that encapsulates much of Porsche’s passion, and was contributed to the canvas, was “it’s not just a car, it’s a dream.” Enthusiasts throughout the night had fun drawing and adding paint colors and one guest was inspired to paint the epitome of Porsche…the infamous 911’s curves. As the evening was drawing near an end, the canvas was raffled off and Jennifer, was the wonderfully enthusiastic winner. The last few contributions and final paint were applied and dried and the canvas would be stored until after Jennifer and I met to discuss how Subliminal Story Art and the inspiration from the evening would be welcomed into her home.
Exactly one week later on August 1st, Jennifer and I met at my office so I could get to know her further. We discussed the appropriate Porsche colors and textures for painting that would blend into the style and aesthetics for her home. After learning about the inspiration, on August 9th I began the process by viewing the canvas and the contributions and reflected back on the smiles and conversations that occurred during the evening. I opened the four curated Porsche paint colors that Jennifer selected that most connected to her and her style. As I began, I knew there were certain elements I wanted to capture in the initial treatment that could carry to the final treatments. Because of the iconic Porsche 911 shape, and Jennifer’s own 911 Turbo, I wanted to make that prominent while being subtle for future treatments. I added a lot of textured paint so the shape could carry through and let the painting set and knew I would be coming back to it.
On Aug 22, 2025 I painted the second treatment, I wanted to highlight more of the Ice Grey Metallic and Gentian Blue Metallic and began to see a bit of a balance that didn’t exist on the first treatment. I wanted to utilize Black throughout as that was the color of Jennifer’s Porsche was also wanted to reflect on some of the Provence accent color in a way that allowed the other main colors to shine. As I had done layer, upon layer of paint I ended up using almost 4 quarts of paint on the canvas! As I was wrapping up on this treatment, I decided to add a large amount of blue, with the backdrop of black and bring back the inspiration from what began the painting, harkening it back to it’s roots… the tire tracks from the Taycan and Macan so there are very textured layers.
As I wrapped up the layers and reviewed some of the pictures Jennifer sent me of art pieces in her collection, I knew this work, while different, had its place in her home and knew it was complete. After it dried after the MANY layers of paint reflecting the MANY layers of history of Porsche, I gazed at the painting for close to an hour…and was excited to deliver the painting to Jennifer after I got it photographed.
This work is a combination of two lifelong joys coming together, cars and art. Without further ado…I invite you to enjoy “One of One.”
